Have you tried the wooden spoon method?

Yep, you heard me right - But it's not what you think!

I love using the wooden spoon method when teaching a dog to walk nicely on leash. It's super helpful for a number of reasons:

1. I'm a professional treat dropper.. No matter what I'm doing, treats accidentally fall from my hands! So, peanut butter (or cream cheese, or liver sausage) on a spoon helps me to be more efficient when offering a treat reward at just the right time.
2. The spoon becomes an extension of your hand, so you don't have to lean over or each down each time you want to treat your dog. This is really helpful if you have a small dog, or mobility issues.
3. Dogs love peanut butter! What better way to incorporate it into your training! Most of the time we put peanut butter in a Kong or other toy.. This way they get to use their brains and work for it!

All you do is take your favorite wooden spoon (okay, maybe your least favorite!) and dip it in a jar of dog-friendly peanut butter. I have separate peanut butter jars for my dogs, so I can double-dip and not worry about gross dog slobber. Also, make sure you choose dog-friendly peanut butter.
